At Budget Loadout, every recommendation comes from research we can show, not from brand deals, hype or commission rates. This page explains how we choose products, who writes the site, how we keep articles current, and how we keep the site running.
Our Editorial Independence
Budget Loadout is an independently operated publication. No manufacturer, retailer or brand has any say over what we recommend or how we write about their products. No company can pay to be included in a roundup, and we do not accept payment for favorable coverage.
If a product is not worth buying, we say so, whether or not we would earn anything from it.
How We Choose Products
Every buying guide follows the same process before a word is written:
- Build a wide field. We gather every realistic option in the category and budget, often dozens of products for a short list.
- Rank on merit first. The order is decided as if no affiliate program existed. Commission never decides which product wins.
- Verify every pick and spec. Each product is checked on its live listing before the article goes live, and sizes, weights, battery figures and other numbers are checked against the listing or the manufacturer’s own spec page. If a figure cannot be confirmed, it does not go in the article.
- Show the trade-offs. Every pick lists what it gives up.
Who Writes Budget Loadout
Budget Loadout is run by Russ, who has been gaming for about 40 years and has built around 15 PCs. Drafts are written with AI assistance, then checked against manufacturer specs, live listings and owner reviews before they are published. Russ makes the final call on every recommendation and every article.
Hands-On Experience
We do not run lab tests, and we never claim to. Recommendations are based on verified specs, live listings and patterns in owner reviews from several sources. When Russ has used a product himself, the article says so.
What We Publish
- Product roundups: short lists of the best options in a category and budget
- Comparisons: two or more competing products side by side, with a verdict
- Explainers: what a spec or feature means and whether it is worth paying for
How We Keep Articles Current
Every product we recommend is checked again every week. When a pick goes out of stock, is discontinued, or stops being sold by Amazon or the brand itself, we replace it with the best available alternative and review the whole article around the swap.
Affiliate Links and Revenue
Budget Loadout earns money through affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. If you click a product link and buy something, we may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. Commission rates never influence which products we recommend or the order they appear in.
Sponsored Content and Review Units
Budget Loadout does not publish paid or sponsored reviews. If a brand ever sends a product for free, the article will say so, and the product gets no special treatment in the ranking.
Corrections and Feedback
If we get something wrong, we fix it. If you notice an error, an outdated pick or something that does not look right, please reach out through our Contact page. We read every message.
